Litherland's Homes and Roofs
Litherland is mainly residential, with late Victorian and inter-war houses on tree-lined roads, inter-war council housing in neighbouring Orrell and post-war estates beside the canal.
Much of the town is made up of late nineteenth-century and inter-war detached and semi-detached houses in good-sized plots, laid out on curving roads with plenty of trees. Orrell was built up between the wars as council housing on garden city lines, with short terraces and semis in brick or render under tile and slate roofs. More estates followed after the Second World War, including houses built in the early 1950s between Sterrix Lane and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
Roof Problems We See in Litherland
- Gutters full of leaves. Mature street and garden trees fill gutters, outlets and valleys every autumn. Overflowing water soaks brickwork and can work its way in around window heads. Our gutter repairs cover clearing, realigning and resealing.
- Slate roofs re-covered in concrete tiles. Most concrete tiles weigh more than the slate they replaced, and on some older houses the rafters begin to dip under the added load. Read what makes a roof sag for the warning signs.
- Patchwork repairs. Decades of piecemeal fixes can leave one slope with several types of tile and slate, which may not sit well together and can let rain in at the joins.
When a roof reaches that stage, our roof repairs team will tell you honestly whether more patching makes sense.
